How do you put money onto a debit card?

I know you have to have those plastic bags to put coins into an account....

But if I had some notes and wanted to put it onto my debit card, would i just go there

give them the notes and my debit card and tell them to put this amount of money onto this card?|||Koschei is right and I'll say it another way. A debit is an amount taken out of an account, such as when you write a check on a checking account. A debit card means it takes money out of an account, as opposed to a credit card where you are just expected to pay later. When you spend money with a debit card the money is usually taken out (debited) immediately. So to put money 'on the card' you would just make a deposit into the account the card is attached to.|||You DON'T put money on a debit card. You put money into your bank account. The card is just ONE method of accessing the account. You can deposit cash over the counter at your bank.|||Just go to the bank, hand them the cash and the card, and say you'd like to put this money into this account.

What happens if you balance transfer from credit card to debit card?

It sounds like a silly question, but what happens if you request balance transfer from a credit card to the debit card (linked to checking account) and credit card issuer approves it? Anyone know?|||hello, here are some time tested links that often get me a best answer! if you have time to read you should find what you need:

http://credit-cards.ebookorama.com

and http://finance.ebookorama.com

hope they do the trick for you!|||If you transfer your balance from a credit card to a debit card then the balance of your credit card will be $0 and what ever the balance was will be deducted from your checking account, so really you're not transfering your balance you are actually paying off the balance.|||i am not sure. I think you will charged a normal rate of interest, which would have been applicable on your credit card on withdrawal of cash.|||your credit card balance would be zero and it would be taken out from your checking account. If you don't have the funds then you have to pay a fee to the bank. Then if you don't end up paying the bank back they can and will take you to court over it. It is good to get rid of your credit card but not if it is going to mess up your checking account.

How would you describe credit cards or debit with a figurative language?

How would you describe credit cards, debit, or shopping with figurative language using Metaphors, similes, personification etc? I need four examples so far I have:

"debit is like smoking" - a person decides to smoke one day. slowly but surely they keep smoking and smoking. it becomes a habit. before they know it, a cancer takes over its host and when they decide to solve the problem, it's too late.|||Master = Lender

Slave = Borrower

Shackles = Debt|||It is like overeating, you eat and you et and it tastes soo good, then one day you notice your more tired, but you dont do anything, then eventually you are soo obese that you have to do something and it is super hard to get healthly again.|||Debt is like a breakup, you eat and eat and eat but nothing fills the void.

You eat and eat and eat but nothing fills you untill one day you realise you've over done it.

Debt is to spend as cat is to kitten|||Like a black cloud of death hanging over you...

What will happen to a minor for illegally using a debit card?

My 15 year old nephew used my debit card and charged $460.00 worth of minutes to his phone. I notified the bank, canceled my card and filed a police report. What will happen to him. Please no guesses or opinions, I'm looking for people who have encountered this problem first hand. Thanks.|||If he paid the money now the Police will not do anything. if not then it will go to the court for minors and the court will still ordered him to pay the money and any fine and he may get away with probation as it is his first offense and it is under $500.00. he will need attorney if he did not pay before the police get involved. Good luck|||he will be charged as a minor for crdit card fraud. Although it was a debit card the authoriztions procedure is the same. The laws in your state for minors will apply in this case.

What is the difference between a credit card and a debit card?

I want to be able to order goods online, but use an account that only has limited funds. so that if anyone got my card details they could only withdraw whatever was in the account and no more. What kind of a card should I use? Credit or debit?|||A debit card is your actual money from your actual bank account. If the card is stolen and used, its your money that's lost and it may never be restored to you. Its basically cash.

A credit card is the creditor's money that you promise to pay back. By law, you can be held responsible only up to $500 of fraudulent charges due to theft, etc... Often times, if there is a problem with theft or inappropriate charges, the credit card company will not hold you responsible. Credit cards also give you leverage in fraudulent deals; you can dispute a charge and if the credit card company agrees that you were unreasonably charged, they will refund you the money and pursue the issue on their own.

Credit cards = security from fraud

Debit cards = atm cards; don't use them online.|||A debit card allows u to spend only whats in yr acct.|||A credit card is a card where you owe the credit company for the sums spent on it. A debit card is where the funds are taken from the account direct.|||Credit cards mean the money isn't yours you are borrowing and paying back to the credit card company with interest.. A debit card is for your bank account, which is actual funds, (earnings) so you pay nothing back and no interest.. Often if people in a shop say credit card they are referring to both!|||A debit card comes out of your bank account, and a credit card you have to pay off at the end of the month.

Won't make alot of difference to be honest, but you can get problems sorted quicker through your credit card company.|||Credit card has a maximum spending limit payable in the fuutre and the limit is whatever the card company gives you.

Debit card has a maximum spending limit payable at the time of purchase and the limit is whatever is your bank account.|||a credit card is a card given with money already on it which you have to pay back, and a debit card is a card which you have with your bank account and you only spend the money u have in your account.|||a credit card means you are buying stuff on credit as in using a loan to pay for what you are buying and as such you get charged interest just like a loan

a debit card withdraws the amount of money from a bank account as such you are not charged interest and you yourself can control how much is in the bank account

alternatively you could get a prepaid credit card which acts like a debit card as you put the money on the card first (top up) and spend the money you have placed on the card this is probably the best option if your shopping online as most sites use a credit card as a form of age checking as yo0u have to be over 18 to apply for one|||If you are really worried about online fraud (even though you are more likely to be "done" over the phone or counter!), get a credit card just for internet use with a low credit limit. Some credit cards give cashback on purchases.

See http://www.moneysavingexpert.com.|||Just get yourself a debit card. You can only spend the cash u have in your bank account,|||almost all card companies protect your cards from fraudulent transactions.

and your always better off using someone elses money, and then repaying it... that way, A youre safe, and B, if it goes pear shaped, you arent left broke...

and most places accept paypal, its safe and secure...|||a credit card uses credit and a debit card uses money from your checking account|||There are many thiings you should consider.

If you want to keep limited amount and keep a checkk on your spending use the debit card . The debit cards are issued by banks and money goes immediately from your bank account.

A credit card ,unsecured , (secured credit card works like a debit card just that you can build a credit history by any credit card and not be debit) means a bank like chase or so has given you a limit of $ 5000 which you can spend and then you get a bill and then you pay them.

Now lets say someone misuses your card and its not anyone you know ( id theft ), in case of the debit card you lose all the money that person used ( max is what you have linked to that debit card account).

THE MONEY HAS ALREADY GONE FROM YOUR ACCOUNT.

In a credit card you will recieve a statement every month and then you see that someelse has been using it and you can then dispute the charges.

Most big banks good with that and you do not have to pay anything till you prove it anyways.

NO MONEY HAS LEFT YOU ACCOUNT YET.

Of course you have to prove it to them. Credit card issues get reported to the credit agencies and if the bank does not agree with you and you do not pay them anyways you get reported and your credit history shows that and a collection agency will pursue you, IF you cannot prove it.

But most big banks are good with this i think and they advertise that you do not have to pay for ID theft stuff.

SO go for a Credit card from a reputed bank ( Chase Citi AMEX HSBC etc.)

Regards|||You can use a secured credit card. It is basically a credit card with cash deposit and you can't go over this deposit.|||If you get your card from your bank it can probably be used as both credit or debit card. It is true that Debit cards pull from checking and credit cards basically establish and unsecured loan. But if you have a checking account say with Fifth Third and you get a card from them that says Mastercard on it or one of the other big names, chances are it can be used as both.. Another great thing to know is that by federal law you are not responsible for fraudulent charges against your account.|||Credit you are basically borrowing money from card companies. And then you get a bill at the end of the month and if you pay it off then your all good. If you don't you get charged interest.

A debit card is issued from your bank. The money is taken directly from your account. It has a credit/debit side. Debit is amount of actual cash you can use in one day (most cards have a 500 limit). The credit side has a higher limit of usually 1500 to 2000. Both are taken from your account immediately (few exceptions). The difference is debit side is on the same day where as the credit side will stay in pending for 2 to 3 days. Also if you spend to much and take out to much with a debit card you will be charged fees. The card will not always shut off depending on if you have some sort of overdraft plan.|||There is a new type of card wher you top it up with cash. So you put, say 拢50 on it, via a bank or E-Bank I suppose, and then it can only have that 拢50 drawn from it.

Where do I start if I want to start accepting debit/credit cards for my business?

We would like to start accepting credit/debit cards for parents to pay their child's tuition at our daycare center. I have never dealt with this before and am at a lost as to where to even start! Can anyone give me advice?|||It may sound easier than it sounds but you want to find an honest credit card processor

who won't rip you off.

Here on some tips on looking for one:

1) Banks usually have lousy rates:

Banks don't have the best rates because they don't have to. They usually leverage the trust

they have with a customer because they are already doing business there.

2) Bank don't process their own credit card payments.

Very few banks actually process credit cards. They simply send your paperwork to

another company that actually handles the underwriting.

3) Watch out for set up fees and contracts or termination fees.

This way if they were not being honest in any way or have lousy customer support you can leave without penalty.

4) Technology

Make sure the company offers solutions that will work best for you. There are new technologies that allow you to take credit cards from your smart phone at no additional charge.|||You would need to contact a "merchant service provider". Usually banks offer that service. There are also independent companies that offer less than a bank would normally charge. My sister used this guide book when she started her daycare business in Kentucky. See link below. Hope it will help you too. Goodluck with your business.|||I don\'t know, but I suggest you google it

What security features should I look for in a debit card?

Hello all,

I am a teenager. I am planning to open a bank account on my name for the first time and intend to get a debit card. What security features should the bank be offering (ideally) to protect my debit card from fraud and identity theft?

And what preventive measures should I take while using a debit card?

This will be a big step for me in managing my money on my own. So my thanks for all those who can help me.|||Make sure that the bank will not charge you more than it does a credit card customer in case of theft or loss. Also, do not use the PIN at commonly vandalized sites such as gas station machines, use it like a credit card. Best.

How do I avoid pending transactions using debit/credit cards at stores?

Do I run it as a credit or run as debit, so that the purchase will automatically post to my account because some cases the purchases are pending for a few days. Any way to completely avoid pending transactions with debit/credit purchases? Any info will be helpful. I know pending means that the purchase hasn't completely processed, but the balance will still be the same. Thanks.|||All banks operate this way (no way around it).

Solutions to this:

1. Keep a check register.

That way you can keep track of every transaction.

You can google excell free check register worksheet.

2. Keep at least 2 weeks pay in your checking account at all times as a minimum.

That keeps troubles at "bay".

3. Use a credit card and check the statement once a month.

Of course, pay the bill in full each month so that you don't pay interest and develop top notch, amazing credit scores....|||That's between the merchant and your bank, you're a stinkin' pawn, and they decide when to take the money out, but usually it's within 24 hours. A different bank may do a better job, I would also recommend a CREDIT UNION, they are speedy

When a business accepts debit cards for purchases do they get credit transaction fees?

Are there fees for running debit as credit, what about if the person decides to put in their pin number instead of running it as credit?|||There are different charges depending on the network used.

If it is the credit card network, the merchant is typically charged 5-50 cents per transaction plus 2%-3% of the purchase price.

If it is the debit card network (pin required), the fees are usually much lower.

What suprises me is that in California and I suspect in most other states, supermarkets will give cash back whether the card is used as a debit or credit card and the consumer is not charged extra either from the merchant or the credit card company. In fact you can use even a normal credit card and get cash back and there isn't any charges to the consumer. The supermarket bills the account as a pruchase meaning the supermarket is paying a 2%-3% fee for the money they are giving back to you if the credit card network was used.

In fact if you have the right credit card, you will be getting credit card rewards for the money that you got from a supermarket. As an example, I use my Discover Rewards credit card when I shop at the supermarket and I may get $60 worth of groceries and $60 cash back for a total bill of $120. I will receive 1% cash rewards on the full $120 from Discover.

How much is the charge when an American uses their debit card in England?

I plan on using my debit card when I go to live in England, until I set up a bank account there. How much is the service charge?|||ATMs in most English Banks don't charge - they will give a message saying that they are free but your provider may add a fee. ATMs in small shops often charge (I think about 3% with a 拢1.50 minimum) but by law they will tell you on the screen before you make the withdrawal.

Check with your own bank what they will charge, when I was in the US one debit card charged nothing and another 拢1.50 (about $3).

edit:

Oh, for purchases retailers are not permitted to add a charge for debit cards (though they can for credit cards), though some only allow credit cards for purchases of over 拢5 (about $10). Check whether your bank will add a charge, neither of my UK debit cards charged for purchases in the USA.

Remember that the exchange rate you get will be the rate at the end of the month - so if the 拢 and $ change rapidly you could end up spending more or less than you expect.|||probably a lot|||Check with your bank here and ask. There will very likely also be a charge from the bank in England if you use it at an ATM.

What is the best type of prepaid debit card to get?

I am deliberating if I want to get a prepaid debit card, because my checking account had been temporarily closed due to insufficient funds. Whats the best kind to get? I signed up for AccountNow but im still skeptical about using it. Does it work? And is having a prepaid debit card better than a checking account? Thanks so much. :)|||The account now card works and it is one of the best prepaid debit cards from what I know but there are many other prepaid cards which you can get that are just as good.

like the

The Ready Debit Prepaid Visa Card

The Green Dot Prepaid MasterCard

The Silver Prepaid MasterCard

The Visa Vision Premier and others

Most if not all with

Guaranteed Approval

No Credit Checks

No Overdraft Fees

Free Direct Deposit etc

The site below has a list of the top debit cards available|||they have hidden fees like crazy. activation fee, a $1 charge each time you use the card, a monthly service fee, taxes, overage fees.... just get back to good standing with your bank if you can. most prepaid cards are practically giving away your money.|||Please do your self a favor and open another checking account,

credit card fees are wayyyyy toooo high no joke !

What would be the easier way for me to purchasing my ticket with debit card?

I am possibly returning to my country and I need to purchase one-way ticket to Tokyo (Japan).

What would be the best way for me to get ticket without using my credit card?

I want to use debit card or cash (if not) .

Am I able to purchase my ticket with debit car from Expedia or other online places?

Or Would that be easier if I book my ticket from travel agency?|||If your debit card has the Mastercard or Visa label you can use it anywhere you can use a credit card... Based on your question, I assume it's just a simple ATM card with no credit card company affiliation...

There is Bill Me Later, which is essentially a credit line that allows you to purchase items online. I believe it's only open to US customers, so depending on your status in the US you may not be able to participate. For example, if you're here on a tourist visa and thus have no social security number you wouldn't be able to apply, but if you are here under a work visa with a SSN, you should be able to apply. There are quite a few travel options that use Bill Me Later, such as Hotwire.com, BookIt.com, JetBlue, Continental, US Airways, and some others.

I am not aware of any travel agencies that use PayPal, so as far as I know, that's not an option.

The only other options I can think of is using an airline ticket office (some airlines do still have ticket offices in larger areas), a ticket counter at an airport, or a travel agency. In all those cases, call ahead to see if you need to bring cash or if they can process an ATM Debit card. I would also suggest using sites like Travelocity and Expedia to find out what airlines are offering the best deals, and what times of the day, and which days of the week, are cheapest so you can tell them exactly what it is you're looking to do.

Good luck and sayonara!|||Aloha you can use your debit if you have enough to cover the cost of the ticket, that way no interest is involved . A travel agent is going to charge a persentage for booking your flight! Try cheap flights or travelocity, remember to find one that the taxes are included so you know what your final cost is first

How long for visa debit transaction to appear?

I bought some items from woolies before xmas, paid with visa debit and it still has not come from my account. Is it because they are in administration? Usually items show within 2 days if not immediately. How long do I need to keep that money to one side in my account?|||There really isn't a hard limit once it's been authorized by the bank, it's just up for the merchant to complete the transaction. I have seen transactions show up 60-90 days out from the authorization. This is especially a problem for debit users. One day you might just find X number or dollars missing from your account because they finally completed it.|||usually 2-3 days but i had a transaction once that took 2 weeks however if you bought your items before xmas i doubt the money will be taken from your account now just check with your bank and if there is no sign of it comming off your account then i wouldn't worry about it.

hope this helps

What is the difference between a credit and a visa debit card?

My bank is offering me a visa debit card, but not a credit card. What's the difference?|||A debit card is linked to your checking account (usually). Any purchases are immediately charged to your checking account. The money is deducted immediately - within seconds.

A credit card is linked to your credit card account. Any purchases are posted against your credit card account, payable when you receive your credit card statement. No money is deducted from your checking account until you authorize payment.

If you don't have a credit card account, you can still use it as a credit card. But the transaction will be converted to a debit transaction and paragraph 1 will apply. My banks says I get the same protections as I would if I had a credit card account.

A simple debit card does not allow you to use the credit card function. There's no VISA or other major credit card logo on the card.|||a credit card buys things on credit with money that you dont actually own and you have to pay it back later. a debit card uses your own money that you put in a accout but you dont have to pay it back later|||A debit card comes directly out of your checking account. A credit card is a loan from the bank.

How to purchase from Apple Store using debit card?

I want to buy a copy of Snow Leopard. It says on the apple store that they accept debit cards, but when I go to the checkout area, there's no debit card option. How the heck am I supposed to make purchases?

I don't have a credit card and all the other purchase options involve ringing apple support, which I can't do since I have Laryngitis and it hurts to talk.

Can someone help me.|||ok does your debit have visa or mastercard logo just slide card and your done since your debit card is like a credit card only difference is you have to have money on your card before you buy anything or your bank will charge your for a fee on Your checking account

credit card means your borrowing monies from a bank and will pay it with interest unless you pay it in full but some credit card company do even give you a grace period and charge you a fee to get it

now if no logo slide it anyway it might pop up debit or credit

Can I use a debit card to make purchases on the internet?

I'm wondering if I can use a debit card like a credit card on the internet.|||As long as it's backed by Visa or MasterCard, you can. Otherwise, if there's no credit card backing, it's simply your debit card.. and most (if not all) online companies will not accept it. That's why there's PayPal. Link that account with your checking account, and then use your PayPal account to pay for it.|||Yes as long as it one of the debit cards that has a Visa or Master Card logo on it.|||Try it. They will not take it if not. I would say its like gold to them if its Master Card or some such type debit card.|||Yes as LONG as it the card has a credit card logo, Example Visa logo.|||Yes but be careful, debit cards don't have all the protections that credit cards do.|||Yup, as long as it has Visa or Mastercard logo on it. To my husband's dismay, I use mine all the time buying online. lol

Is the Visa Electron debit card accepted in places where you see the Visa Logo?

Or do you need to find merchants that are Visa Electron affiliate? However, I already got info from different sources, I just would like to get answers from people who actually use this kind of Visa debit card.|||I read reports it hit %26amp; miss. However, if your in a county that does not take the Visa electron card. It might work through the Visa system but again it hit %26amp; miss. Online sometimes works even in your country.

How long does it take to get a claim for debit card unauthorized charges?

I had my debit card stolen and charges made. I found them in time but it's now taking more than a month. How long does it normally take?|||It may take quite a while. The thief would also have to have used your PIN, and the bank is going to want to investigate that thoroughly because that is unusual.

What are the best banks to get debit cards from?

I wish to get a debit card but I don't know which bank to go to. I live in Richmond, Va and i would like to know a bank that has good customer service and good places to get a debit card from.|||a debit card is tied to your bank acct - all bank debit cards are basically the same - you can't spend more than is in your acct

look for the bank with the most ATM machines - if you use another bank's ATM, you usually pay an extra fee - could be as high as $3 per withdrawal|||Debit cards are attached to checking accounts.

Your question should be.

Which bank offers the best checking.

Stay away from the big boy banks such as Chase, bank of america, citi

They are going to start charging (or already are) for checking accounts.

Small regional banks and credit unions offer free checking.

But be aware - they are limited.

Such as few ATM's, and less updated online services or shorter hours of operation...

How long do you have to wait to use your debit card after depositing cash in the bank?

I just deposited money into my checking account earlier today like around 2:00 pm. When I check my account online it says the available balance including the money I deposited. But when I check the activities it still says pending. I'm not sure if I can use my money now without getting a insufficient funds fee in case my deposit hasn't gone through. How long do you have to wait to use your debit card after depositing cash at the bank? I know payroll doesn't go through immediately but I'm not sure about a cash deposit. Thanks!|||If you deposited it before the cashier changed over, then you're fine to use it today. It sounds like the money is waiting to be credited to your account. That usually happens late at night very early in the morning.

Banks are supposed to credit your deposits before they deduct any debits, so you should be fine.

In the future, keep in mind that most banks will not credit deposits made after a certain time (such as 2:00PM) until the next night. It really depends on if you beat that deadline or not.|||the banks differ but mine shows up after midnight|||If you deposited cash, it will credit your account immediately. It won't hard post until your bank does it's posting at the end of the day, but the cash will be available. If it was a check, you would need to wait.|||Any deposit into your account by 2:00 p.m. or after will not be posted to your account until the next day by most banks.|||cash deposits are available within a few hours I think do, and if your payroll check is from the bank that you are depositing it into then it is available much sooner.

What debit card offers the highest cash back?

What debit card earns you the most money on how much you spend? I'm thinking of getting the PayPal debit card.|||There's no "cash back" on debit cards.

Why does the code change on my debit card when I get a new one?

Every time my debit card expires and I get a new one, why does the 3-digit security code on the back not the same as it was on the previous card? Is there a way to write a written request to the credit union that I do not want this number changed on my next debit card? Why do the cards expire?|||It's changed for security reasons - which is also why cards have an expiration date. You can't change that.

Is it possible to purchase one item using two different Debit cards?

Heres an example:

Lets just say you want to buy a $130 radio but you had two Debit cards. One has $100 dollars on it and the other has $40. Could you merge the two cards together in order to purchase this radio?|||Yes you can. Just tell the cashier what you want to do.|||Yes, definitely. How much you want to be charged on your credit cards, depends on you. You must make it clear to the cashier that you want to purchase an item using two debit cards. Let's say you have an extra $30 cash, you may opt to use it and the debit card with the $100.|||you dont have to merge anything just pay using both cards. use the first one and then the second one, you dont have to merge anything

Thanks.|||No, things will still take time to fully clear your account. A lot is going to depend on how the merchant you are purchasing from settles their credit cards. It is pretty normal for it to take 3-5 days before leaving the pending status. The only way to not have this is to simply write a check or use cash.

When you use a debit card as credit does it check your balance?

I need to buy something and I have no money. I was wondering if I go into walmart and use my debit card as credit, will it go through? Or will they check the balance?|||With my experience, you won't be able to use it at all if you have no money in your account. It'll keep showing up "Balance not approved."|||they check the balance. no money in the bank, no dice. that's the thing with debit.|||LOL

Yes, it will verify you have the funds to purchase the items. No money = no items.

The card will come back declined, unless you have some sort of overdraft protection with your bank. Some banks let the charge go through, but will assess you an overdraft fee as if you wrote a bad check. That can add an additional $35 to $40 to your purchase and you have to pay it back to your bank in order to avoid having your account shut down and sent to Chex Systems, where you will not be able to open a bank account at all!

What happens if my debit card i payed with on paypal, was cancled the day my refund was issued?

I got a refund back the same day I figured out that the was some kind of fraud on my debit card, would the money still go to my bank account? It says its status is complete.|||If it's not possible to move the funds back to your card, the funds will most probably stay in your Paypal account until you transfer it to your bank account.|||When I got a refund on pay pal they sent the money into my bank account so it should be there.

Whats the difference between debit and ATM?

Everytime I'm at the gas station and they ask me "Debit or ATM?", I always wonder what they mean by that. So if you know, can you please tell me?? Thanks.|||Nothing.

Debit and ATM, you use your PIN number. The money gets deducted immediately from your account.

Credit, you just put in your zip code (at a gas station) or you sign the receipt. The money comes out a few days later.

When you use credit at a gas pump, $1 is held on your account now, then the full amount comes out a few days later.|||Debit cards can be charged just like credit cards, with no requirement for entering a PIN code. ATM cards can't; you need to punch in a PIN code.|||ATM is the automatic teller machine and money comes out of it. If you use the debit card you can purchase stuff with the same card andthe money comes out of your account instead. Same card though.|||they usually ask debit or credit???!!!|||Debit is the card that goes in the ATM machine.|||Debit runs through the MasterCard system, and you are verifed by your signature. ATM runs through whichever ATM system the machine/gas station, etc provides like NYCE, Cirrus, etc. and is verifed through your pin number only. Both effect your account the same way. Be careful, because often times you are charged a fee for processing your transaction one way, but not the other.|||.|||Debit and ATM are just about the samething. Are you sure that it doesn't say debit and credit. Credit you have to sign for and debit you use your pin number. A debit goes out of your account right away and a credit might take a little longer.|||If you choose debit, they can charge you a fee, just like using a non-affiliated ATM machine. Always say 'credit' and sign the receipt. You won't be charged a fee then. Some stores charge the fee and some don't.|||From a mechanical standpoint, the ATM option would be a PIN based transaction not requiring a signature. The Debit option would be like a credit card transaction where the consumer would just sign the slip.

From the whole sense of how bank accounts work, your transaction is Debited no matter what. In the eyes of the bank, your account is a liability to them and any positive balance is a normal credit balance.

As you take money out, in order to lessen or remove a credit balance you need to debit the account. So, from the big picture perspective, there isn't a bit of difference.

Who is PayPal for? What's the difference between debit card payments and PayPal payments?

What's the difference between paying online through a checking account's debit card and paying online through PayPal? What are the PayPal advantages over the internet paying methods existent before PayPal came along?|||Paypal is for everyone sellers and buyers. Using the old fashioned method you'd have to give each individual merchant your financial information, with Paypal you give your info to one company and they technically make payment on your behalf. It can be incredibly convenient. Also if you've ever paid with a debit card and had a problem with the transaction you know it's HELL to get your bank to do anything. For the most part you are on your own and it's you against the company. At least when you pay through Paypal you have the benefit of their dispute process (which is quite effective) on your side.|||PayPal is an e-commerce business allowing payments and money transfers to be made through the Internet. How do I pay for online bills when debit card is deactivated?

My current debit card was deactivated by Wachovia bank because of fraud, and they said that I should receive a new debit card in the mail within 3-10 business days.

However, I need to pay off some credit card bills online and I have no other way of paying it off on the due date. How can I pay online without an activated card and with no debit card number??|||Call the credit card company and make an check by phone payment (ACH) using your bank routing and account number.|||Check with you bank to see if they have on line bill pay. If you have credit cards you are trying to make payments on you should be signed up with them already so you can make payments from your bank. Maybe you can make a payment to one from another. Not knowing the whole situation it is hard to say exactly what you can do. If you have no way whatsoever to pay on line I would suggest you call the companies and explain what happened and they will probably understand. If payments are due in 3 days and your new debit card is supposed to arrive in 3 to 5 days I don't think that one or two days late is going to effect your credit. Maybe a small late fee at the most.|||your credit card company lets you pay for the bill using a debit card? I have never heard of that. Anyway, you can also use your checking account information to pay the bill as well. You just need the routing number (first 9 digit number on the bottom of your checks) and your account number (usually the middle number on your checks. You can also call or go into the bank and confirm what your account number is or find out what it is if you don't have it. There is probably also a Bill Pay feature with the online banking as well through your bank where they will send the credit card company a check (a lot of the time it is sent electronically, just from Wachovia to the credit company instead of you giving the credit company your account info. Its a better way to keep in more control over when a payment is made because the credit company can't *accidentally* charge your account for a payment.

Just because the debit card is deactivated doesn't mean your checking account number doesn't work anymore. :)|||Wachovia offers free bill pay. Go to their website and sign in. Give them the bank and account number of your credit card and tell them how much to send from your checking account. Where do I find the start date on my debit card?

For something I'm buying online I need the start date and expire date for my debit card. I have the expire date, but don't know where to find the start date. Is this something I have to get from my bank?|||I never heard of a place needed the start date.

But if they need it (and im confused why??) then it be the date you ACTIVATED your card. You can call you bank but I dont know if they can give you the activation date, i wouldnt bother calling customer service they may not have.. Call your bank card security department first then tend to have more information on it|||I got asked this question too, and my bank helped. They told me the debit card was valid for 10 years and there were 7 years left. From that info we found the starting date.

Can someone break down the difference between Credit and Debit please?

From my understanding, Credit is coming from someone else's pocket, not sure who, but I have to pay them back and sign a receipt, right? How long do I have to pay them back before my credit score drops? And how do I pay them back? Through the bank or credit union?

Debit is just money from my own pocket, and I have to put in a pin. Right?|||Credit is using someone Else's money to make a purchase. Most credit cards give you 25 days to pay it back interest free. You mail a check or pay online to the bank that issued the credit card

Debit is using the money sitting in your checking account.

What advantages and disadvantages do credit cards and a debit card?

I need help i need to know what are the advantages and disadvantage between these two cards a debit and a credit card.|||Debit card:

PROS: the money comes right out of your account. you know how much you have and how much you have to spend.

CONS: Money comes right out of your account. lol. If you overdraft, you get fees added.

Credit cards are what get people, like myself, into trouble.

PROS: You can pay for things you normally wouldn't have money for, or to use in emergency situations.

CONS:They accumulate interest charges and you pay more for your purchase. Fees.

All in all, a debit card is your best bet. If you can stay away from using a credit card, do it.|||Debit cards are linked to your bank account so the money you spend is automatically deducted from your account. They provide a convenient alternative to cash, especially if you do a lot of shopping online. Debit cards can also help you budget. Use your card to pay your bills and day-to-day expenses and your monthly statement will provide a good snapshot of how much you spend per month and where it’s going. There’s another benefit as well: Unlike credit cards, your bank balance goes down with each debit card transaction, so you’re less likely to overspend. (Many banks offer “overdraft protection” that allows you to exceed your balance. But you’ll end up paying interest, and maybe extra fees, on the money you borrow from your overdraft account.)

With so many benefits to the debit card, why use a credit card at all? There are three main reasons: You can spend more than you have — or postpone paying, at least — and you typically get better rewards and better protection than you do with debit cards.

Credit cards basically allow you to use someone else’s money (the card issuer’s) to make a purchase while you pay the money back later. If you do so within the billing period — generally, 15 to 45 days — you can avoid paying any interest on it. The problem arises, of course, when you don’t pay the balance in full and are charged interest as well. That can quickly add up. If it takes you two years to pay off a $500 balance, for example, and you’re being charged 18 percent interest, you’ll end up paying nearly $100 more in interest.

If you use them responsibly though, credit cards can offer other advantages. They help build your credit, as long as you pay your bills on time. Some also offer rewards that you can use to get gifts, cash back or discounts for products, services and special events. They also provide more protection if someone steals your card or bank information. If you notice a fraudulent charge on your credit card account, you can call the card issuer, make a dispute claim, and the charge should be removed from your balance. But if thieves steal your debit card information and use it, it may take weeks for the bank to investigate your claim and replace the lost funds. In the meantime, you may have to deal with a dwindling bank balance or bounced checks.

Federal law also protects you if you need to dispute charges on a credit card, but not if you use a debit card or other forms of payment. If you paid cash or used a debit card, the retailer already has your money. So you have a lot less leverage, and there’s no guarantee you’ll get that money back. But if you pay for something with your credit card and aren’t happy with the purchase, your card issuer can legally withhold payment from the retailer until they resolve the dispute, and you won’t be charged.

Let’s say you’ve decided you want a credit card, which one should you get? The answer depends largely on whether you plan to pay off the balance each month.

If you know you’ll probably carry a balance, look for a plain-vanilla card with no annual fee and the lowest annual interest rate available. (Any interest you pay on a carry-over balance will offset any perks you could get through a rewards card.) You can compare several low-interest credit cards at creditcards.com and bankrate.com, which both provide updated information on dozens of different cards. You can also apply online for cards through either site, but limit your applications to one or two to avoid hurting your credit.

Be aware that card issuers can raise your interest rate after you’ve gotten the card. So check your monthly statements. (You should be aware, though, that the Federal Reserve has just passed rules that will take effect in mid-2010 limiting the card issuers’ ability to raise your rate, unless you’re late with a payment.)

Call the card issuer if your rate has increased to try and negotiate a lower rate, or consider transferring your balance to a lower-interest card. (Billshrink.com lets you see how much more you could earn in rewards or save with a lower interest rate if you switched to various other credit cards, based on your credit score and how much you spend each year.)

If you plan to pay your bill in full each month, seek out a card that provides rewards you actually want — whether that’s cash back, frequent flier miles or points redeemable for gifts. The interest rate shouldn’t matter, since you won’t be carrying a balance. But look for those with no annual fee. Bankrate.com and creditcards.com also provide comparisons of cards by the types of rewards offered, among other criteria. Generally speaking, if you plan to use your card a lot, cash-back programs may be the best bet. It’s easy to get the refund — either through a check or a credit on your account — and you can use that money for anything. Many large banks also offer debit cards with rewards, so it can be worth shopping around for them too. Creditcards.com also provides a comparison of diffe

How do i transfer a direct debit to another account?

I have 2 accounts with hsbc and wanted to change a direct debit that comes out of one, to come out of the other account. Who do i have to notify? The company that takes the direct debit out or hsbc, or both?

Sorry, little clueless about these things!|||If you were to open a new account with a different bank there are rules which make the banks cooperate to transfer the DD. All you need to do is tell the new bank about your old account and they take care of it for you.

Because you have 2 existing accounts with the same bank these rules don't apply, but there is no reason why HSBC should not transfer it for you if you ask them.

Alternatively, so can ask the company that takes the direct debit and give them the new details.

So in answer to your question, you can ask the bank or the company. But don't ask both because they have different systems and you might confuse them or end up with 2 DDs or some other extra hassle.|||Are you in the UK?

I have visa electron debit card with cvv number for online transactions. But same web sites are not accepting electron cards. They are specifically saying visa cards. What is the actual difference between them? I am 24 years of age. Can I get visa card.|||visa electron is for people who have recently opened their account, or do not have a very high 'trust' status on their account. You can use it to withdraw cash from a machine but pretty useless for paying for things in a shop - most don't accept them.

To get upgraded, use your account like a good citizen, making regular deposits and withdrawals and then approach your bank in about 3 months time and ask if you can have a debit card.|||I don't think there's much difference Except with some online transactions they can charge you more with a debit or credit card...hence they don't except Electron.... How much does Chase charge if you use your debit card as a backup funding for PayPal?

I had to use my debit card to pay a forum seller through paypal because I have zero funds and I need to send the payment immediately.

But then after, I heard that PayPal charges fees when you do that.

I checked the FAQ of PayPal but it says that the bank the account owner is using does the charging.

If they do charge, how much?|||PayPal never charges a fee to send payments for items and services purchased online. Your card issuer may charge a fee, but that is strictly up to them.

We know that you work hard for every dollar, and we make it a priority to keep fees as low as possible. We don't charge a fee for opening an account, sending money, or withdrawing funds to a bank account.

Our fee structure is based upon whether a payment is classified as Personal or Purchase.

"Personal" payments are those sent to friends or family without an exchange of goods. A cash birthday gift or sharing a dinner bill are two examples.

"Purchase" payments involve a sale of goods or services, a response to a donation request, or money received by a business or commercial entity.

Sending or receiving a "personal" payment is free if it's withdrawn from the PayPal balance or bank account. Debit or credit card transactions are assessed a fee, but the sender has the option of paying the fee or passing it on to the recipient.

The recipient of a "purchase" payment will always pay the fee, regardless.

To review the current fees rate for your account:

Log in to your PayPal account.

Click "Fees" at the bottom of any page.

Select the link under "Get Paid" column of the Purchase box.

International payments, country to country, will incur a fee along with any applicable exchange rate conversions. We recommend a review of the Fees section of the PayPal User Agreement before making an international transaction. The User Agreement is located by clicking "Legal Agreements" at the bottom of any PayPal webpage.

Withdrawing money from the PayPal balance to your bank account is free. However, if a check is requested, there's a $1.50 fee.|||You will not be charged fees by PayPal for using it to buy items off the net.

Is it true that using a debit card for online payments is unsafe?

I am trying to purchase something through Paypal with my debit card. However I've been told that it's not safe to use my bank account online because people could steal my password or something. So is it true that using debit cards for online payments is not as safe as using credit cards?|||The security of the card itself is the same no matter if you use a debit or credit card.

The difference is that with a debit card, the money is taken out of your account immediately. If someone does manage to steal the card and make a purchase, you will lose the money in the account, and have to work with the bank to get the funds returned to your account. With a credit card, if you dispute a charge then you never really lose any money yourself (assuming they accept the dispute).

In the end, it works the same either way.|||It is NOT true that debit cards are less safe than credit cards. Debit cards are as safe as any other card for online purchases. In fact, if your debit card has a credit card logo on it (ie, MasterCard or Visa), it has the same zero liability theft protection as a credit card.

I have Wells Fargo and know my account number and online login if that helps.|||I was going to say, "Look at it..." when I first saw the question, but since you do not have it yet, you have to wait.|||Typically you have to call them at the number on a sticker on the card after you receive it, to verify that is your address and make sure than nobody snatched it from your mail. Sometimes another way to verify that you received a debit card is to use it at an ATM, since the PIN that you need to use it is mailed separately.

How do credit cards differ from debit cards? AND How is my FICO score affected by my use of credit?

I'm trying to decide whether or not I should get a credit or debit card, but I'm not sure what the differences between the two are. Also, I was wondering how will my FICO score be affected once I get a credit or debit card. Thanks in advance for any help.|||Debit cards are not extensions of credit and are not reported to the credit bureaus. They have nothing to do with your FICO score. They are tied to bank accounts. You can use them as debit or credit transactions but the funds still come directly from your bank account. A debit transaction requires your PIN to authorize; a credit transaction is authorized by your signature.

Credit cards are an extension of credit. You apply and are granted a line of credit. You get a monthly statement which shows the charges you've made and a due date for payment. If you don't pay the balance in full, you will be charged interest.

Credit cards are regularly reported to the credit bureau and can build good payment history which will help your FICO score.|||A debit card allows you to pay without using physical cash, similar to a credit card. However it makes use of your cash at bank instead of racking up a debt as in a credit card. Credit cards give points which can be redeemed BUT charge a huge interest if you do not pay by the due date. It really depends on whether you have a large savings account or if you prefer to spend what you do not have now for immediate gratification. It also depends on how quickly you pay back loans and whether the points matter.|||You can use this credit monitoring service to pre-estimate future scores for different scenarios of such payments - credit-report-score.10001mb.com

If they don't know then you'll have to talk to the management/accounting of the store you used it at and tell them that it hasn't shown up, your bank has no idea, and you would like for them to check their records to find out if they have your account charged.|||Depend on your bank. But after a month I would be checking with your bank and see what happen to your debit card.

I know with mind it usually takes a day or two and not a month later.

talk with your bank now.

How can I pay online without an activated card and with no debit card number??|||Most places accept online check payments, you just enter your bank account information.

How to shop online with a debit card?

I have a high school checking account chase bank debit card and i wanted to buy something online but the site only has payment options of credit, paypal,or money order/check.How can i buy it with my debit card?|||If your debit card has a MC/VISA logo then use credit. If not set up the checking account in Paypal.|||If your card has a Visa/Mastercard logo on it, you select credit. If it does not have the logo, you cannot use it online.

How can I find out my debit card number?

I had opened a debit card at Chase bank today, and they had said that it would take about 7 days for it to get to me in the mail. Is there any way that I can find out what the debit card number will be online?|||1) It's highly unlikely you can find it.

2) Even if you could, you have to activate the card when it gets to you, so just having the number before activation does you no good.

Sorry!|||It may take a few days for your debit account to be available online. Your best bet would be to call the bank or better, visit the bank, and ask them what their procedure is for giving out debit card numbers prior to the card arriving. They might be able to tell it to you.|||your going to have to wait.|||No, you won't know until it arrives.

Whats the difference between paying with debit or credit?

If I have debit card and pay for clothes, is their a difference between punching in my pin number to signing my name? I am a teenager and recently starting using my debit card. If anyone can explain that would be great :)|||Probably the only difference you'll notice is the signature vs pin number. Some banks offer incentives to make debit transactions, but not many I know of; check the terms of your bank account or ask a bank representative. Typically, debit transactions hit my account quicker, so I have a better idea of what my balance is; I don't have to worry about forgetting that I swiped my card yesterday and the transaction isn't showing yet in my bank account.

Whats the diffrence between Credit and Debit in terms of using a bank card?

I asked my mom and like other questions she doesn't answer them thourly (spelling?) She said there's no big diffrence but I know that theres a huge diffrence because you may have to pay interest when borowing money from the bank (credit) and with debit its coming straight out the bank, so in your guys opinion which is also better, credit or debit?|||When you use a credit card, you are taking a loan, and interest charges start to build up at the end of the month unless you pay it off in full (which is what you should do).

When you use a debit card, you are basically writing a check--the money is immediately taken from your account and given to the merchant.

Both have their uses. If you, for instance, need to buy a new washing machine but don't immediately have the cash, it can be useful to spread the payments out over a few months, accepting that you will be paying interest. But it's very easy to get into debt trouble that way if you charge more than you can reasonably pay off in the near future.

Most people carry both these days.

Debit cards are safer, since you are only spending money you already have on deposit. But they lack the flexibility that a credit card has.|||To actually answer your question: a checking account debit card with a Visa or MasterCard logo has the same effect whether you choose "debit" or "credit" at the checkout counter. Both take money directly from your checking account, and no borrowing occurs.

They do have differences, though. A "debit" purchase is authorized by using your PIN. A "credit" purchase is authorized with your signature. And the store pays a higher fee to accept credit cards.

If a card offers rewards and bonus features like purchase protection, you'll usually have to choose "credit" to be eligible. So using the "credit" option has a slight edge, as long as you realize it still works just like writing a check and you need to have the money in your account.|||Bank debit card and credit cards are two different things.

Don't confuse them.

A bank debit card you can use as credit or debit which tends to confuse people, but it comes out of the checking account right away.

A credit card.

You make charges all month long, and you get a bill after one month.

If you pay the balance in full, you never pay interest and develop great credit

54% of Americans never pay interest on credit cards by paying in full.

Don't think just because people are using credit cards - that they are paying interest|||Adding to huntsman, it depends on your money habits. When you have a debit card they dont allow you to overspend if you have a credit card you might accidentally over indulge and then if you cant pay it off at the end of the month your interest rates might go up and your credit score down. It all depends on your money habits

Whats the difference between credit and debit?

ok im 15 years old and just got my first credit/ debit card from bank of america everytime i buy something they ask me if i want to do credit of debit wats the difference?|||Technically in your case there is no significant difference, it is just how the transaction is processed...if you select debit, then you have to type in you PIN, if you select Credit, then you just sign the slip (if over 25.00 most places) Either way the money comes out of your checking account...|||The person who says that is probably misspeaking. They are both debit transactions, not credit transactions. They both debit funds immediately from your bank account. What they are asking is whether you want to handle the transaction as a PIN based transaction through the banking system or as a cleared transaction through VISA or MASTERCARD. The merchant fees are different for those kinds of accounts.

Or they could be merely asking whether the card is a debit card or a credit card (which they could tell if they looked at it closely).

What is the difference between running my card as debit or credit?

I just have a regular checking account, so what is the difference between running it as debit or credit? Is there one? Will it help my credit score if I run it as credit?|||Tara

No difference to you, but for the merchant a very BIG difference. The merchant may pay $.25 for each debit card transaction, but could pay 3% or more for the same charge being done as a credit card.

So on a $100 item a $.25 as a debit or $3 as a Credit card fee!

Soccerref|||If you select debit, you enter your PIN. If you select credit, you sign the receipt. Your BANK treats both EXACTLY the same. This account DOES NOT exist on your credit report unless you overdraw the account and fail to bring the balance positive.|||Absolutely nothing, this is for the retailers convenience not yours. the money is taken from your account immediately no matter. No it does not help your credit

Can Merchants Charge a Fee to Use Debit or Credit as a Form of Payment?

Most places I go they either only take cash or they accept debit/credit cards without a fee. I've noticed some smaller places only accept debit AND they charge a nominal fee of 50 cents to do it. Is this legal? If it is legal, is it within the rules and guidelines of the debit/credit card companies? If its not acceptable to do it, where can I go to report the activity in the State of California.|||There are now laws to prevent the merchant from recouping some of his costs for accepting the credit card. It is probably in violation of his merchant agreement with Visa and MasterCard. You can report them, but don't expect to see any changes. You won't get a refund.

Either use cash at these places or don't shop there.|||The merchants get charged a fee for each debit / credit transaction they process, they are just passing this fee along to the customer.

There would be no state statute making this illegal.

There may be a clause in their merchant account agreement. But since there are hundreds of difference merchant processing companies and each has their own contracts, there would be no way to know if the merchant you are going to is breaking their contract. There is no way for you to even know who their merchant processor is.|||I have seen this question a lot lately. And, it seems the question always comes from someone on CA. Whether it is legal or not, I have no idea. You can probably contact your states Attorney Generals office and they might be able to steer you in the right direction, but, it seems more small businesses are passing these debit or merchant fees onto customers. Times are tough!|||Of course it is legal.

The bank charges small establishments for the card processing service.

How would you feel if some idiot came in and insisted on making a $1.50 purchase with a card but the bank charged $1.50 for the transaction? You've made nothing on the sale|||Yes, it is legal. Merchants have to pay the credit card company per transaction %26amp; they are passing the cost on to you. That is why many require a minimum purchase amount, like $10, to use a card.

What is the difference between Credit and Debit?

I have a Visa Debit card from Bank of America, and some businesses ask me, "Would you like to use it as credit or as debit?" I really don't understand that. To me, it's the same thing: the money is being taken out of my checking account. The only difference is that if I use Debit, I need to put in my PIN number; and if I use Credit, I have to sign for it.

But what is the difference between them?|||Saying credit means it goes through the Visa system, if you go credit you are using it as an ATM. Going through the Visa system you get the Visa protection if something goes wrong with the transaction.

Edit:

found this thought it may help virtually what I said but better written.

http://www.daveramsey.com/etc/askdave/in鈥?/a>|||Basically credit is that a company lends you money to pay for your purchase which is why they then charge you interest for using their money.. Debit is money that is taken from an account that you own and have money in already. The pin is to help protect your account from fraudulent use.

How old do I have to be to get my own debit or credit card?

How old do I have to be to get my own debit or credit card? I'm 17 and turn 18 next summer break, so if it's 18 I can wait that long. I live in the US, Indiana, so what is the state age limit to get one from your bank? And also, how old do you have to be to use a debit or credit card online?|||You can have a debit card as young as 8 if your parents approved it

Credit Card is 21 yrs of age Federal Law went into effect Feb 2010|||You can get a cash card at 16 I think, which is just a card to take out money from a Young Savers Account - a debit/credit card is different though and you need to be 18 debit/21 credit but im not sure.|||s k is wrong, the other one is right

Should I start with a DEBIT card and see how it goes before applying for a CREDIT card?

I've never had a credit or debit card. Most of my acquaintances are saying I should get one. Will a debit card help me ease into using a credit card? Or should I just not bother to get anything and keep paying with cash and checks? What should I watch out for using a credit card?|||If you are not financially responsible, you can get into trouble with either debit or credit cards. Each had advanatges and disadvantages,

Debit card can limit you to only funds that you have, but banks will allow you to overdraft and hit you with fees. Credit cards can extend you a huge credit line, but you do not force you to use it ! Debit and credit card both give you protection in the event of theft.

Credit provides some services like warranty protection and price protection. Also, you can dispute a transaction with a merchant when you buy with a credit card. Also, lots of credit card give you cashback which lets you buy stuff for less than the cash, check, or debit card price. (remember not to buy stuff you do not need !)

Obviously, I love my credit cards and never use debit cards.

Both are financial tools that you can either use or abuse.

(like a hammer, you can build a house or bang your fingers)|||Start with a debit card and stay with a debit card. Cash and checks are fine too. You won't get into trouble when you can't spend money you don't have. Learn to live on less than you make and pay cash for stuff and don't listen to broke people who make fun of your plan.

The credit card companies make all the rules and stack them in their favor. Just look up the "Universal Default Provision". They can change the terms and rates that apply to you at anytime and for any reason.|||I would think it would be a good way to manage your money . Credit cards make it too easy to spend without having to worry about limits . I'm speaking from personal experience of getting myself into big time debt from credit cards . I only carry one now and it has a set limit of only 700.00 . They offered me a limit of 2000.00 but I feel safer with that low limit . I do pay it off each month to avoid any interest charges .|||I would stay away from the cards as much as I could I only use the prepaid and if they do not except I try to find the address of the company it is much cheaper that way direct then using cards even a money order is cheaper.

How old do you have to be to reload a Prepaid Debit Card at Walmart?

What is the process of getting a Prepaid Debit Card, do you just go the store and buy it?

How old do you have to be to reload a prepaid debit card at Walmart?|||If you are old enough to talk to a cashier and explain that you want to load some more money on to the card, then you are old enough to use one.

Why do debit checking account bank cards even bother to have a pin number since they have the visa or mc logo?

They can be run as credit cards anywhere.

So why bother with a PIN number?

---- Not an expert at debit cards.

Only use regular credit card - not attached to a checking account.|||So you can use ATM's|||The money gets deducted from your account immediately whether you run it as credit or debit. The difference is how the bank treats it if there are fraudulent charges. If it was used as a debit card your pin was used and it is assumed you used the card yourself or authorized someone to use it. If you claim the charge was fraudulent the money is gone until the investigation of the charge is complete. You only get the money returned after they decide the charge was fraudulent. If the card was used as a credit card and you object to the charge the money is immediately returned to your account and gets only gets deducted when the fraud claim is denied.

That's how my credit union explained it to me. I asked the same question because my ATM card can be used either way.|||Judy, Judy Judy.......... Love saying that...

Using the card as a charge card Widens the accessibility and use of the card. IT has NOTHING to do with special benefits as some have stated here You get the card protection either way you use it. It is simply two cards in one, An ATM for use at the machines to do bank transactions AND a check card to use in place of cash. Use them anywhere you see the Logo's|||Because they are EFT cards and used at ATMs and POS pinpads (Pulse, Interlink, etc.).

How do you transfer funds from your check/debit card card over to your credit card balance?

I want to put back some funds from my check/debit card into my bank balance to pay down my principle balances?|||It actually is kind of hard to understand what you're asking. I'm not really sure what you mean by transferring between your debit card and a credit card.

Are you asking how to make a payment on your credit card with your debit card? If so-- log on to your credit card's website and plug in your account information. Instead of paying with the actual debit card itself, you're going to have to use your account number (that the debit card is linked to) and your routing number for the bank. It's pretty much doing a check online, except you do not have to void one out.

|||I'm not sure what you are asking but suggest you call your bank for help.

How do you put money on a debit card?

I have $10 on a debit card that will expire in one month from now. I'm 15 years old and I want to put $20 dollars in my debit card. If I have enough cash money, how would I put the $20 of cash into the debit card?|||Depends on the debit card type. If it is a bank debit card that you received when opening up your checking account you would just need to deposit your $ into your checking account.

If it is one of those greendot prepaid cards you go to walgreens, cvs etc and buy a money pack card(its card you purchase each time you want to deposit $ on your card) you can put $20-$500 on at at time and the company charges $4.95 each time you load the card. you then call the 1800 # on the back of the card and type in credit card number and reload number located at the back of the $ pack......|||There is probably a phone number on the card. Call that and ask for help.|||Generally speaking a debit card withdraws directly from a checking or savings account. It debits the account (hence the name!) Put money in the account, then the car accesses it.

If it is a gift card or check card contact the company that issued it.

With Chase Debit Card OverDraft Protection, Can you get cash back with debit card purchase?

If your acct is over drawn, and you do have debit card overdraft proctection and lets say go to the supermarket. Can you get cash back if you use it as a debit card purchase?|||Yes up to the amount of cash back as allowed by store policy and not in excess of the maximum overdraft protection limit.

What is the difference between Debit and Credit?

When making purchases using plastic they always ask debit or credit. Besides having to use a PIN for debit and the ability to get cash back, why can't they be consolidated as one since the money from both come from the same account?|||Here's the difference:

Debit, the store has complete %26amp; total access (pin #) to your account for the time the withdraw is taking place. Thats why you can also get cash back, while the store has total access, you can request for extra money. This sort of money exchange is instant.

Credit goes through a merchant such as Visa or MC. It is totally secure. The store can only process the amount you give permission for(your signature). The money exchange can take up to 3 days to process. The two cannot be consolidated.

Credit is way more secure %26amp; should be used the most to protect your bank account.|||Credit is where you pay the money later and debit is where the money is taken out at the time of purchase. Ask your bank if they can be consolidated.|||There really is no difference. If you'd rather enter your pin than sign the receipt, then you should use debit. I think merchants may get charged a slightly different percentage for credit rather than debit, but it makes no difference to you as far as I know.|||There is no difference for you, but the charge paid by the store to the bank is different. For debit, it pays a fixed fee (usually around a quarter), and for credit, it pays a percentage (usually around 3%).|||It only makes a difference to the store. The cashier can't tell at a glance which one it is, so if you were using a credit card you wouldn't be able to run it as debit. The store pays a lower fee if you choose debit. It shouldn't make a difference to your bank, though.|||debit takes money from your bank account. you must have enough money in your bank account for the purchase. credit card is based on your creditability, the bank believe you can pay it off later. even if the money eventually comes from the same account, you don't need to have a dime there for your credit card purchase. in your transaction, it doesn't look like any difference except using PIN for debit. the biggest difference between debit and credit is in your credit history. debit has no effect on your credit history, credit does.|||They do not always come from the same account. They might in your case. I have some cards that are linked to bank accounts, but others for which I am billed after I charge something. For some of my cards, only debit or credit works, not both.

Can anybody explain the difference between credit and debit in accounting?

Can anybody explain the difference between credit and debit in accounting? What is the rule?|||A debit may increase or decrease an account, but the same is also true for a credit. So you have to know how each entry affects the basic accounting equation....Assets = Liabilities + Equity. After each journal entry is complete, the accounting equation should always be in balance.|||For Asset and Expense Accounts, Debit will increase and Credit will Decrease.

For Liabilities, Revenues and Capital Accounts, Debit will decrease and Credit will increase.

Asset = Liabilities + Capital

How can I become a reseller of prepaid debit cards?

I want to become a reseller of prepaid debit cards. Even a company that would dropship them would be good.

Does anyone know how I can start this?

Thanks!|||You can market the All-Access card online. All-Access is America's #1 selling prepaid debit card:

http://www.allaccesscard.com/

and they also have a MasterCard product in addition to a Visa:

http://www.prepaidmastercardnow.com/

The easiest way to get started marketing these cards and collecting commission is through an existing affiliate network that has a relationship with NetSpend, the provider of All-Access:

NCSReporting: http://ncsreporting.com/

iCommissions.com: http://icommissions.com/

Credit Soup: http://commissionsoup.com/

The benefit of doing this online is that you don't have to handle physical inventory. Visa and MasterCard have strict security requirements around handling these cards, so it's easier to simply market them online and collect the commissions.|||I can do that for you using the Medallion Prepaid Mastercard at http://www.medellioncard.com.

How were you wanting to sell the cards? Online or Retail? Visit the website and notice at the bottom of the sign up page I have a drop down box that would require people to put in your name and you will receive a credit when cards are sold.|||Call the number on the back of the card.

What are credit cards that work smiliar to debit cards called?

I need to start building credit and I would like to do it fast. I heard one way is to get this credit card that acts like a debit card. Is there? And also how can I gain credit fast?|||A secured credit card isn't anything like a debit card. The credit card company holds your cash as collateral against the credit they extend you. You can build credit history with a secured credit card.

The "credit" card that works like a debit card, is the prepaid cards. You put money on the card and use it like a credit card but the money is subtracted from the card --like a gift card. This does not help your credit.|||Clark Howard, radio's millionaire cheapskate, has a name for them and it is anything but complimentary. Tune-in.|||St George band offer this. You need to have the money in your account (so you don't actually get any credit) and then you can use it as a credit card and the money comes straight out of your account. This is really good as you can still use the card over the phone and on the internet and you will never be charged interest and you will never have to make the effort to pay it off.|||It's called a "secured credit card." You pay the company an amount (usually $500) and they hold onto that $500 and then give you a credit card with a $500 credit limit. I'm pretty sure you get that money back if you ever cancel the card, but be careful - if you cancel the card, all of your credit history with that card gets wiped away - it's as if you never had it!|||do not use any of the credit building programs

it's a sales pitch for a line of credit from a merchandise catalog that does NOT report to the 3 credit bureaus unless you are late of miss payments

a secure credit card is what you want

the only good one is from B of A

the lowest fee and the lowest initial deposit required

and quite frankly, if you do not have the money for the security aspect of the card, then you do not need / deserve credit as you cannot manage your finances

How old do you have to be to apply for a debit card?

I personally don't like to carry cash around and am thinking of applying for a debit card. Anybody know at what age you must be to get a debit card.|||You have to have a checking account to get a debit card. You have to be 18 to be the sole holder of a checking account, if you are under 18, then you will need someone over 18 (a parent, for instance) to co-sign the account with you.

I was only 16 when I opened my first checking account and got a bank/debit card and my dad was the co-owner of my account. Nothing is different except that he had access to my account so make sure it is someone that you trust.|||18|||Im pretty sure 18.|||It depends on your bank, really. Most checking accounts these days automatically include a debit card. I know you can open a checking account at age 16.

Call around to your local banks and ask what their policies are.|||You don't apply for a debit card, you open a checking account. I am sure that you have to be a certain age to open one, but I have no idea what that is. Call the bank that you are interested in getting an account at.

What are the benefits of getting a prepaid debit card?

I don't have good credit so I wanted to get a prepaid debit card. Which one is the best and where can I get it?|||Prepaid debit cards and pre-paid credit cards can help you control your spending. A reloadable debit card allows you to only spend up to the amount you have pre-deposited into the account. If you tend to overspend or like to control your spending, then a pre-paid debit card could be a good choice for you. Also, if you have bad credit and can't get an unsecured credit card, a prepaid debit card is also a good choice. To apply or learn more, you may go here: http://www.creditcarda-z.com/prepaid.asp|||it would be no different than going to your bank

and getting a debit check card, except no fees

to sign up or pay|||A prepaid debit card is ideal for someone like you with poor credit. Two of the most significant benefit are:

1) It builds discipline in that it restricts you to shop within the limit on your available amount prepaid.

2) By careful management of this card, it would slowly build back your credit and lenders would start to rebuild confidence in lending to you.

It's a good start!

How can I use a pre-paid visa debit card for my mastercard bill?

I received a pre-paid Visa debit card, but the best use I can get out of it is to put it toward my Chase mastercard bill. However, on the Chase website I can only see spots to link checking accounts to pay off the bills, no other options. Is this doable?|||It would be bad judgment and may be considered that you are using too much credit if you fall to the point of trying to pay a credit card with a credit card. It would cost you more because it would be considered a "cash advance", so there would be a cash advance fee in addition to interest from time of transaction. So it would just cost you more money with no benefit (unless just temporarily out of cash, a sign that you are living beyond your means). It is about one step away from payday loans.|||Sorry... not doable.

Simply because you can't pay off a credit card with another credit card of any kind, even a prepaid one.

(not to get confused here.... a balance transfer between credit cards is done using the credit card checks provided for this purpose... because the option to use a credit card is not available.|||No

How does the wash-sale rule apply towards debit spreads' trading?

I understand the implications with the wash-sale rule with stock and option's trading, but it is interesting to see how it works with debit spreads, where for example you buy one 50 December call of XXX and in the same time sell one 55 December call of XXX.|||The wash sale rule does not apply because you have not closed a position for a loss, and when you close the spread the options you will not be replacing a position closed for a loss.

However, the straddle rules do apply. See page 58 of

http://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/p550.pdf

Addendum

rhsaunders is absolutely wrong is saying the straddle rules do not apply. The two positions are absolutely offsetting and the straddle rules apply.

Read the definition of offsetting positions in Publication 550.|||Good question. My take on it is that the securities are different so the 30-day wash sale rule does not apply. But if there is any significant tax money involved, I'd check with an expert.

Postscript: I reviewed the material cited by the previous responder; it is worth reading. But the straddle rules do not apply in your case because you are not carrying offsetting positions.|||I've never actually heard of debit spreads. Can you explain what that is?
