What is the advantage of having a Debit card that is also considered a Credit card?

In other words, you have the option of pressing Debit or Credit when making a purchase. The only thing I've noticed is that when I choose the Debit option my bank charges a fee.|||They are the same. At some places you will be asked not to enter your pin when choosing the Credit Card option and instead have to sign for it.|||debit is for when u want cash back|||its better to use the credit option last year and its a continuing problem hackers have been able to access records and when you put your pin number in they have access to that too. they do not have access if you run it as a credit and have to sign the screen. the only thing is whether you run it as a debit or credit it comes straight from your checking account....that weird though they'd charge you a fee for a debit though...ask them why|||Credit cards are accepted more universally. They are both private banking systems, but so many more people in the world have a credit card that businesses do not want to pay monthly fees to accept debit cards.

Your bank charging the fee on use is to convince people to use the credit card style bank card (Visa endorsed etc). The more you spend using it the more the bank makes off of you (as well as visa/mastercard). Every use nets the bank and Visa a fraction of a cent, but over the world that adds up to big money.|||The others are pretty much correct. When you use the card as a debit card, you can get cash back in addition to paying for your purchase. Many banks encourage you to use your card as a credit card, even though the money will come out of your account just the same. The reason they may charge you a fee for a debit transaction, is to get you to choose credit over debit. The store has to pay the bank a higher fee for credit transactions than it does for debit transactions. The fee your bank charges you helps to make up lost revenue.|||Use the credit card only if you pay the balance in full each month to avoid transaction fees. Use the debit card if you can't pay it off each month.
