Do debit cards generally work for buying things over the internet?

I have a debit card from associated bank, and I don't know if it would work over the internet or not. I guess it probably depends on the website, but say I wanted to order something from wal mart, would it work?|||If it has a Visa/Mastercard logo, it will work. However, purchases made with a debit card do not have the same protections as purchases made with a credit card.

If something goes wrong with the purchase, you have to fight the charge with your bank. The merchant has already taken the money from your bank account and it can take weeks to get it restored if the bank finds in your favor. In contrast, with a credit card, if you dispute a charge, the company will freeze that particular item until they investigate. You will not have to pay that part of the bill while they are investigating what happened.|||It will function the same as a credit card.

You will not need to , DO NOT, use your PIN #, ever.

The amount of purchase still comes out of your account immediately. It does not carry payment terms over time.

I never use a Debit Card for internet purchases. Adjusting any errors takes time, and the money is gone until it is.

With a "Credit Card", any error can be disputed and delayed until settled.

Walmart may be an exception as far as a lengthy time frame for adjustments.|||~~I have never seen a website which will allow you to pay with a debit card. If your debit card has a Visa or Mastercard logo, then it can be used in lieu of a credit card.

Just enter the numbers and security code (located on the back of the card) when paying.~~|||If it's the kind of debit card that's linked to your checking account and has either the Visa or the Mastercard logo on it, then yes, it will work.|||visa/mastercard logo on the card AND enough money in the account to cover the purchase then yes.
